We’re a baseball family, but I go to the games for more than baseball. There are the ice cream cookie sandwiches, of course, and but I also love all of the excitement that builds throughout the game. One thing my son and I love to talk about is the walk-up song. If you’re not a baseball fan, this is the song that batter chooses to have played as they approach the plate. The songs are always full of energy and the short clip that is played tells you a lot about the batter’s personality and drive.
In my mind, I have a walk-up song. I’m not walking up anywhere, so it is more of a theme song that plays in my head when the pressure is on. It reminds me how I handle the pressure, who I am, and that I’ll come out on the other end. It’s fun and motivating.
As we sit in this never-ending year moving towards cold weather, it seems we all need our walk-up songs for an extra dose of motivation. The ice cream cookie sandwiches are still virtual and we’re all on edge waiting for something else weird to happen. It makes it hard to walk up to the plate day after day.
If you don’t have a walk-up song, think about it and choose one that is full of energy and optimism. And when you find yourself dragging to the plate for more of the same, put on your walk-up song. I promise it will cheer you up!
